NFPA 1225

Formerly NFPA 1061 & 1221

NFPA 1225 is the Standard for Emergency Services Communicators. It is a combination of the former NFPA 1061 and NFPA 1221 standards and requires that candidates pass both the written and practical exams for public safety telecommunicator.

Part 1: written exam

Applicants must complete a written test invigillated by an NFPA-qualified administrator. The test is 50 questions long and covers a range of communications topics. Applicants must achieve a grade of 70% or higher on the written exam. 9-1-1 Professor offers practice tests available via the adjacent linked image.

Part 2: Practical exam

Applicants will be tested by an evaluator on several of the skills described in the NFPA 1225 standard. Public Safety Telecommunicator I focuses on call-taking and processing skill sets. Public Safety Telecommunicator II addresses dispatching and resource allocation skills. A list of these skill sets can be found in the 9-1-1 Professor practice tests.
